Reason for service: Customer smelled a burning electrical smell and the breaker tripped for the indoor air handler. Began at breaker box, there is a 60 amp and a 30 amp breaker that supplies power to the air handler. The 60 amp breaker only supplies 2 heating elements, as does the thirty amp breaker. The thirty amp breaker is only supplied with a 10/2 AWG wire meaning it can only support upto thirty amps of power, and is currently pulling forty one amps and after running for sometime begins to over heat and eventually trip the breaker. I did verify we could move the third heating element over to the 60 amp breaker which is supplied by a 6/2 AWG wire and would support three heating elements without over heating. I did bypass the third element and verified it would still sufficiently heat the home , which it is with a 37°F temperature rise and is not a cause for concern. HVAC service work. AC unit not operating correctly upon arrival.. the condenser fan motor is on, but the compressor is not. Diagnosed issue and concluded that the capacitor is no good it needs to be replaced as a minimum repair to get the unit going again. While checking the equipment I also discovered the evaporator coil is really dirty and needs to be cleaned. I have a few other recommendations to help prolong the life of the compressor and other components. Provided estimates while on site to get issues resolved.

Upon arrival, I was informed by the customer that the system was not working, that the blower was running but nothing else, however I did see that the blower was not running. I did check all the control wiring, capacitor and contactor, and the compressor and fan motor. The system would run when bump checking the contactor. I went to the indoor unit and saw a 24 blink error code indicating the fuse in the system had been blown. I confirmed this and replaced the fuse with a customer provided that was sitting on top of the unit. At this time I was told by the customer that the thermostat had been recently changed out so I did confirm that the system was wired properly from the thermostat on. Which it was. I did begin tracing the low voltage short and narrowed it down to the contactor. This proposal includes all materials and labor necessary to install refrigerant taps for the high and low side of the system. We will then install a new liquid line filter dryer, pressure test the system, and evacuate the system down to industry standards.
